Tigers down the Voodoo
Posted by TheDoctor on 2008/4/14 9:18:23 (704 reads)

It was the Voodoo’s first encounter with the new look Tigers on Saturday night.

The Voodoo turned over a new leaf in first period of the game. The number of shots on goal conceded had been the Voodoo’s enemy in previous games, however, the Voodoo’s defence was top notch. The score remained 0 – 0 with 2:50 left on the clock until Tom McLeod was let into open ice from a pass from John Cole, and proceeded to put the puck in the back of the net.

Defence was once again strong in the second period, frustrating the Tigers. The elevated frustration saw elbows starting to be lifted in hits, and unfortunately the Voodoo’s frustrations started to fray. Cliff Chapman received 2 minutes in the box after an altercation half way through the period. A beautiful shot by Oliver Reid from the point was netted by John Cole with 5 minutes left on the clock seeing the Voodoo go ahead 2 – 0. The Tigers finally managed to breakthrough the Voodoo defensive wall late in the period. As tempers continued to flare, Cliff Chapman was penalised for a Cross Check, and also copped a misconduct.

The last period, saw the Voodoo’s defence waver, as the discipline was challenged. Aaron Clough sat 2 minutes for a dubious tripping call, followed by Oliver Reid for interference. The Tigers achieved more shots in the last period than they racked up in the first 2 periods, eventually outshooting the Voodoo 11 – 2 in the final period, and netting 3 of their shots.

It was a marked defensive improvement, for the first 2 periods at least. The Voodoo were once again outshot during the game 21 – 10, however, only due to a troubled final period on defence.

Man of the match this week goes to John Cole, for his fantastic offence and strong work on defence, seeing him rack up 2 points in the game.

The Voodoo have a bye this week, as they celebrate last season’s achievements on Saturday night at the annual Prize Giving night.

Voodoo Suffer Loss in 08 Opening Game
Posted by TheDoctor on 2008/4/3 1:48:27 (772 reads)

The Voodoo received a wakeup call on Saturday night going down 6 - 0 in their first game of the regular season.

The team was down 8 players for this week’s encounter, so tiredness was bound to set in late in the game, especially on the smaller ice surface of the Avondale Rink.
The Voodoo played nicely on defence in the first period, with good discipline, the only penalty of the period was when Matt Toogood got sent for a rather dubious slashing call. The Voodoo were only down 1 - 0 at the completion of the first stanza of play.

The second period was once again the Voodoo’s pain period, with the Savages out skating, out shooting, the tiring Voodoo. The Savages amassed a further 3 goals by the close of the second period.

Something lit a fire under the Voodoo in the final period, and they went out and played their best period of the game with fantastic offense, great defensive play, and shooting at will. Tempers started to flare mid way through the period seeing defencemen Shane Brown get 2 minutes in the box for roughing, then Oliver Reid getting a double minor for roughing. The Voodoo shot 13 of their 20 shots for the game in the last period. Unfortunately the Voodoo’s shots went unconverted, and as fatigue set in, the fresher Savages scored a further 2 goals finally winning the game 6 - 0.

Despite the loss, the Voodoo can take some positives away from the encounter. The Savages only outshot the Voodoo by 1, 21 shots to the Voodoo’s 20. The defence displayed some good work in the crease. The forwards attack is taking shape with a number of excellent 2 on 0 opportunities.

Man of the Match this week goes to rookie winger Cardona Vito, who was fearless on defence and offensive play was impeccable.

The Voodoo face the Vipers this weekend at Botany Downs.

Craig Cowper faces Judiciary
Posted by TheDoctor on 2007/10/14 7:00:00 (396 reads)
Voodoo

Craig Cowper faced the judiciary last night on charges of abusing a referee.

The whole issue started after Damien Partridge was charged during the 3rd period of Saturday nights game, rendering him unconscious. As Craig was administering First Aid, we was ordered off the ice and was also ordered to remove Damien with himself by the referee.

After disobeying the referees orders (for obvious concern to Damien's well being) he was given a Match penalty and the game was called off.

The Voodoo were notifed on Wednesday night that Craig would be required to front an AIHA judiciary hearing on Thursday night.

Voodoo management and players were in attendance with Craig at the hearing. The Voodoo management stated that they fully supported Craigs actions of continuing to administer First Aid, and would continue to do so, should it happen again in the future.

Craig has over 18 years of First Aid experience during his time as a New Zealand Surf Life Saver.

The results of the hearing are yet to be received, but Craig faces a maximum of 4 weeks for his actions.

The Match Penalty Report makes interesting reading and can be found be clicking HERE

Damien has been ruled out for 3 weeks (by Medical Experts) as a result of the concussion he received on Saturday night.
